Domaine Henri Magnien - Gevrey-Chambertin 'XV' 2024 (3L)

IN STOCK - 2 left in stock

Founded in 1987, Domaine Henri Magnien is a small family estate, with 6 hectares, located in Gevrey-Chambertin. After working side by side with his father Francois, Charles took over the domaine in 2012 and has taken the wines to new heights. He is considered to be one of the rising stars in Burgundy.

They have been using an old clone which is called Pinot Noir Magnien, aged between 70 to 100 years old, bringing unusual power and spiciness to the wines. The domaine has many of the very best vineyards, including Lavaux St-Jacques, Les Cazetiers and Ruchottes-Chambertin. In the past five years, they have converted 70-80% of their vineyards to organic viticulture.

Charles is the first in the Magnien family to bottle their whole range, rather than selling off fruit or wine. Jasper Morris MW states in his book Inside Burgundy that Charles “makes a very good range of wines, with an exceptional Cazetiers.” William Kelley of the Wine Advocate writes “Charles Magnien continues his rapid ascent through the Burgundian firmament.” With well over ten vintages under his belt, he has led the Henri Magnien wines to be recognized as some of the best in Gevrey-Chambertin.

"This is a Gevrey producer that has come on leaps and bounds in the last decade and the market has not really caught up."  Neal Martin, Vinous, Nov 2024

Very exceptionally, Domaine Henri Magnien has blended their fifteen (XV) Gevrey-Chambertin vineyard sites as they did until 2012. The usual three cuvées will be back in 2025!

"The 2024 Gevrey-Chambertin XV is a blend of fruit from the regular Village plus the Vieilles Vignes and Champerrier, titled "XV" since it comes from 15 parcels. This is very perfumed on the nose: pure red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, light briar and crushed stone scents. The palate is very well balanced with a sensual, silky texture, just the right amount of acidity and superb tension and delineation on the Vosne-like finish. Lovely." - 92 Points, Neal Martin Vinous

"15 lieux dits feature in this blend combining the regular Gevrey plots, plus the Vieilles Vignes vineyards, plus Champerrier. Elevage has been in foudre as well as barrels. A lighter ruby colour. The nose is a good reading of Gevrey, slightly more in the strawberry side of the divide, lightish but elegant, and will gain in fragrance with time." - 90 Points, Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy
