Domaine Pierre Guillemot - Savigny-les-Beaune '1er Cru Les Serpentières' 2023

IN STOCK - 12 left in stock

The Guillemot family has worked Savigny-lès-Beaune vines for eight generations (!) and produces wines with classic Burgundian finesse and balance, all while leaving us a reminder of Savigny’s rustic character. Guillemot is one of the quintessential KLWM producers, with wines that epitomize the local terroir and emphasize grace and elegance over power and structure. But do not be fooled into thinking that this means they lack aging potential; the Guillemots are very proud of their old wines and thankfully have the foresight to set aside a good supply and follow their wines’ development over the years. A recent tasting at the domaine included a 1989 and 1975 Savigny Blanc, as well as the ‘90, ‘88, ‘85, ‘82, ‘76, ’72, and ‘64 Rouge. There was not a single tired bottle in the bunch. We challenge anyone to find a better deal on Burgundies that are built to last like these!

Pierre Guillemot is usually one the first names to come to mind when speaking about Savigny-les-Beaune.

"The 2023 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Serpentières has turned out beautifully, bursting with aromas of cherries, sweet berries, orange zest, petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's generous and charming. The 2023 vintage is a solid success for Domaine Pierre Guillemot, delivering a lighter, more immediate style than in 2022. As readers will remember, this seven-hectare estate is rather classical, the reds fermenting in wooden tanks with temperature control, followed by élevage with modest percentages of new wood. Whole clusters increasingly play a role here. The wines are remarkably consistent, surpassing expectations in challenging years and fully delivering in more propitious vintages" - 93 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2023 Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Serpentières 1er Cru comes from two hectares of vines located in two parcels owned by the Domaine, a relatively large holding of 1.7 hectares. Perhaps this has the most delineation and finesse on the nose, quite mineral-driven with adequate fruit. The palate is silky-smooth on the entry, with very pliable tannins and a keen thread of acidity. Its commendable depth toward the finish makes it almost feel more like a Côte de Nuits. Very fine." - 90-92 Points, Vinous

"The yield here was no more than 45 hl/ha. As always the wine from Serpentières is a little paler. A bit more floral on the nose, quite elegant, showing the whole bunches a touch more. Some alpine strawberry, plush and satisfying throughout, with a notably long finish on the crushed strawberry note. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted Oct 2024." - 91-93 Points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
