Domaine Sylvain Pataille - Marsannay Rosé 'Fleur de Pinot' 2022

IN STOCK

Sylvain Pataille is one of the new breed of winemakers.  A highly-regarded consulting oenologist, who still advises over 15 Burgundy domaines, Pataille has in very short order built up a domaine of some 15 hectares, all in Marsannay, the northernmost, and most recent (1987) AOC of the Côte de Nuits.

Sylvain has been organically certified since 2008, and has been employing biodynamics in the vineyards and cellar for over a decade.

Sylvain has at least two parcels on opposite ends of the vineyard. The vines here are old, the youngest being planted in 1949, and consist of Chardonnay, Aligoté, and Pinot Noir for Rosé. Sylvain notes the characteristic reductive minerality despite the change in location, grape, and bedrock. He believes this minerality is so beautiful that it would be a shame to make red wine on this terroir.

Planted in 1932 (En Blungey), 1934 (Champforeys), and 1949 (Charme Aux Prêtres). 40-50% directly pressed, indigenous yeast fermentation. Aged for 24 months in demi-muids (1/3 new oak) and tank.

"This unique wine is more than your standard rosé – it shares the structure of a red wine and the racy tension of a white. The colour is deep, and the aromas exhibit a heady blend of red berries, floral notes, and exotic spices. The texture is lively and perfectly dry, with enough elegant substance to age gracefully (yes, a rosé!). The wine is blended from Pinot Noir and Pinot Beurot (Pinot Gris) from a collection of old vine fruit in Marsannay; half is direct to press and half is macerated to extract more colour. Drinking Window: 2025-2050.” - 94 Points, Decanter
