Dominio de Atauta - Ribera del Duero 2022

At an altitude of 1,000 meters in the Soria town of Atauta, there is a unique valley that constitutes an authentic enological and ethnographic jewel. In this unique enclave, Bodegas Dominio de Atauta literally stands with the purpose of reflecting in its wines all the peculiarities that the Tinto Fino variety is capable of offering from pre-phylloxera vines that are more than a century old.

Bodegas Dominio de Atauta drinks from the tradition of a valley with more than five centuries of winemaking tradition and with extreme conditions, both due to the altitude at which it is located, as well as a climate with little rain and large temperature fluctuations.

Based on these bases, the philosophy that Bodegas Dominio de Atauta has followed since its inception has been to pamper the fruit obtained in the vineyard throughout the entire cycle with exceptional qualities and carry out a careful intervention in the winery.

Over the years and adding an excellent human factor to the unique conditions of the terroir, Dominio de Atauta's wines have managed to carve out a niche for themselves among some of the most renowned wines from such an outstanding Designation of Origin as Ribera del Duero.

The wine is made from a selection of very old vineyards with vines planted on sandy soil with cobbles, which provides a better maturation and a further fruity intensity. The vinification process is carried out in villages using concrete and stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in wooden tanks and then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

"The eponymous 2022 Dominio de Atauta wants to showcase the character of the valley, selecting the best terroirs, mostly on clay soils. 2022 was super dry and a little warmer than average; but a very dry end of the season made things very challenging, and for the first time ever, they started harvesting in September. The wines are riper and more opulent, less vertical than in cooler years. It has a clean and attractive nose, with some restraint and elegance. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins. The parameters here are 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.58 and 5.07 grams of acidity. 72,165 bottles and 1,980 magnums produced, the largest production so far.
