Hervé Joyaux Fabre, owner and winemaker of Fabre Montmayou, was born in Bordeaux, France, to a family of wine negociants. When he arrived in Argentina in the early 90’s looking for opportunities to invest in vineyards and start a winery, Hervé was impressed by the potential for Malbec in Mendoza.

As a true visionary, he bought very old Malbec vineyards, planted in 1908, and built the Fabre Montmayou winery with real boutique style and essence. Once the winery in Mendoza was established Hervé then decided to buy vineyards and a winery in Rio Negro, Patagonia. He realised the unique cool climate of this southern region combined with the “terroir” made it possible to create great wines that are very different in style from those produced in Mendoza.
His passion and “savoir faire” did the rest. Also, his partnership with his wife, Diane, enabled him to begin producing exceptional wines that have achieved international acclaim and are enjoyed in over twenty countries. Hervé crafts the wines, meticulous in his approach to ensure every step of the process is carried out to his instruction. Diane takes control when the wine is ready to be shipped out to customers. She looks after everything from the corks to customers and beyond.

The winery was built in Vistalba – Lujan de Cuyo, 18 Km North of Mendoza city at 3800 feet elevation (1,150 meters of altitude), and is surrounded by the first 15 hectares / 37 acres of Malbec vineyards that Bodegas Fabre S.A bought.

For the Fabre Montmayou line of wines, the owners decided to buy exclusively old-vine vineyards in the best wine growing areas of Mendoza.

De-leafing and green picking is performed in December. Harvest is realized manually.Cold maceration carried out 5 days prior to fermentation which is carried out at a controlled temperature. 4 pump-overs per day and a long maceration period of 25 days.              60% of the wine is aged in French oak for 12 months.

Deep red colour with violet tones. Very intense bouquet with red cherry fruit and spices. Complex and well balanced with vanilla and chocolate notes from the oak. A modern style wine, with sweet silky tannins. Great with all kind of grilled meats, games and cheeses.
