Marcel Deiss - Altenberg de Bergheim Grand Cru 2020

IN STOCK - 9 left in stock

Located in Bergheim next to Ribeauvillé, in the heart of the Grand Cru area, the Marcel Deiss estate was founded in 1947. The Deiss family is a long line of winegrowers, blacksmiths and bell founders who settled in Alsace after the Thirty Years War and the attachment of the Province to France. Currently managed by Mathieu Deiss with the help of his father Jean-Michel, the estate has fought for a more qualitative production, based on the terroir rather than on cloned grape varieties, the inclination to Biodynamics, very low yields, agroforestry and Biodynamics.

Winery Notes: Autumn-colored, amber, thick robe. Spectacular nose of tropical fruits, candied lemon, acacia honey, with the elegance and lightness that is so characteristic of Altenberg. The palate is vibrant, creamy, rich yet with balanced acid, where all components come together perfectly. Varieties and clay, grower and limestone, fruit and pink sandstone, vintage and depth.

"The golden-colored 2020 Grand Cru Altenberg is clear, deep, elegant and cocoa-ish on the lemony-scented nose. Generous but elegant and refined on the palate, this is a full-bodied, complex and finely tannic as well as saline Altenberg with a long, sweet, saline and lemony finish that again shows melting dark chocolate and minty and lemon/orange bitters. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024." - 96 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
