Schug - Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma Coast 2021

IN STOCK

Schug Carneros Estate Winery celebrates the 40th anniversary of its first vintage, made when a passion for Pinot Noir led patriarch Walter Schug to establish his label and eventually leave Joseph Phelps, where he was the founding winemaker. Now the family-owned winery is entering a new chapter, with dynamic young German-American winemaker Johannes Scheid bringing modern touches to the estate’s European-styled wines. Schug’s 100-year-old heritage — stemming from a Pinot Noir estate in Germany’s Rheingau region originally planted in the 12th century — spanned an era of pioneering winemaking before putting down roots in the cool-climate, wind-swept Carneros hills in Sonoma. Today, Walter’s children are preserving their family’s rich winemaking legacy for generations to come.

This well-balanced Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from cooler vineyards in the southern end of the Sonoma Coast AVA. The Hi-Vista vineyard in western Carneros and the Grossi vineyard north of Petaluma contribute spice and bright tangy acidity. The Leveroni vineyard south of Sonoma contributes the unique floral character of the Sauvignon "musque" clone. The resulting blend has a bouquet of nectarine and grapefruit zest, leading to lush fruit flavors of kiwi, lime, and grapefruit. It finishes with a refreshing minerality and zesty acidity that makes it an ideal accompaniment to a wide range of soups, salads, and shellfish dishes.

"An aromatic nose of apricots, peaches and Mediterranean herbs. Medium-bodied and rather concentrated and flavorful. Zesty acidity keeps the palate bright throughout. Pleasantly tart." - 91 Points, James Suckling
