The Speri Winery, with a story that begins in the first half of the 1800s, has now entered its seventh generation making wine from about 60 hectares of vineyards in the most select Valpolicella Classica areas.
The Speri family, respecting its territorial heritage, has always cultivated exclusively the native grape varieties of the Valpolicella zone (Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Molinara and other indigenous varieties), making wine only from grapes coming from its own vineyards and itself overseeing the entire production process.
Valpolicella Classico is a hilly nook within northern Italy’s Veneto region, covering one-fifth of the entire Valpolicella DOC and corresponding to just five municipalities. Wedged between the Adige River and the Alps mountain range, it constitutes the appellation’s historical core. Here the elevated terrain located on the Alpine foothills has a temperate climate that is unexpected given the northerly latitude.
70% Corvina veronese, 20% Rondinella, 10% Molinara. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks and aged in French oak barrel (500L) for 24 months, with additional bottle aging for 9 months.
"Dark cherries, blackberries, mussels, licorice, figs and some finely ground black chocolate, following through to a medium-to full-bodied palate with elegant berries and a bittersweet black-chocolate note. A refined, textbook Amarone that shows great poise and modern drinkability." - 94 points, James Suckling
