Tenuta San Leonardo covers an overall area of 300 hectares, of which the vineyards, planted to red grapes beginning at an elevation of 150 metres, amount to 30 hectares. Merlot is planted in pebble-rich soils that were once the bed of a tributary of the Adige, while Cabernet Sauvignon and the old vineyards of Carmenère are in predominantly sandy soils. All are well-drained, low-fertility soils that yield wines with truly unusual levels of anthocyanins, and not just for the Trentino. In 2015, San Leonardo launched a project of conversion to organic viticulture, which concluded successfully in late 2018 with the award of official certification. In the same year, the BWA Friends of Biodiversity organization certified San Leonardo as a Friend of Biodiversity, testifying to San Leonardo ́s deep commitment to preserving the character of its growing area.
Terre, a Bordeaux blend like San Leonardo and from the same terroir, follows in the footsteps of its “elder brother,” here with remarkable crispness and enviable balance.
A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Carmenère. Spontaneous 15/18 day fermentation in small concrete vats with periodic pumpovers and délestage. Aged 80% in concrete vats and 20% in French oak barrels.
“Savory spices, dried leaves, red plums, charcoal, currants and iron on the nose. Juicy and fine-grained on the palate, with a medium body and a succulent, peppery finish. Cabernet sauvignon, merlot and carmenere. Drink now.” - 92 Points, James Suckling
“Bay leaf, cedar and leather aromatics lace the ripe currant and green olive flavors on display in this expressive red. Fresh and well-knit, with fine, taut tannins through the lingering, creamy finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carmenère. Drink now through 2035. 8,000 cases made, 1,200 cases imported.” - 91 Points, Wine Spectator
