Tomas Postigo - Ribera del Duero '3er Año' 2023

IN STOCK - 27 left in stock

Tomás Postigo began his journey in Ribera del Duero at Protos winery in 1984. He worked there as a winemaker for four years, until 1988, when he launched the Pago de Carraovejas winery together with other partners. Tomás was the driving force behind the project, since he was not only a shareholder like the other partners, but also the winery’s technical director and winemaker, responsible for both the wines and the winery itself.

He remained at Pago de Carraovejas for 20 years, until in 2008 he decided to leave the winery and start a new one that would bear his own name: Tomás Postigo. Since then, it has grown little by little to become one of the benchmark wineries in Ribera del Duero. Tomás has nearly 40 years of experience as a winemaker and is currently one of the most experienced in the region, as well as one of those who knows Ribera del Duero best.

The Postigo family is made up of Tomás and his four children Gabriel, Alberto, Juan and Nicolás. Their passion for wine was passed on by their father and that means that all of them are already involved in the running of the winery, from the oldest to the youngest, thus bringing together tradition and continuing down the generations.

It’s been many years since Tomás, one of the most venerable winemakers in Ribera del Duero with more than thirty-five vintages to his name, began to instill in his children all of his knowledge and love for wine. The four have grown up in the winery, in a special environment learning the importance of a job well done, prioritizing quality and attention to detail, all paramount in Ribera del Duero.

Everything is harvested into 10 kilo boxes, reducing the bruising of the fruit. After staying in a cold chamber, the clusters go through a selection process where several people hand separate anything that’s not a grape (leaves, stems …) or take out the clusters that do not meet the strict quality standards of the winery. Then, once the cluster has been de-stemmed, the grapes will go through automatic selection machine that will remove the unripe berries, the de-stemming remains or overripe grapes.

Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec. Selected from vineyards located between 750 and 1,010 meters above sea level.

In the winery, the grapes are moved by gravity, without pumps, gently. The grapes arrive destemmed and whole at the tank. A12 months in 225-liter French oak barrels from different forests. Clarified with natural egg whites. Bottled in April 2025.

Clean and intense aromas, dominated by ripe red and black berries, with fine and elegant notes of wood, spices, and licorice that, as it opens up, give way to red fruit and cocoa. Silky texture, very good acidity, good structure and balance on a vibrant background. Fruity sensation on the palate.

This producer is a must try for any Ribera del Duero fan. We would highly recommend trying this entry level wine from the Tomas Postigo range. A more fruit forward, delicious wine that is a true crowd pleaser. This 2023 is drinking great out of the gates. Don't miss out on this one.
