At Vinonueva, our mission has always been clear: to seek out wines of true character and value, bottles that deliver pleasure well beyond their price tag that are worth your glass and your cellar. This upcoming walkthrough tasting captures that philosophy at its core. It's a celebration of what we do at Vinonueva.
We are thrilled to host 'Battle of Burgundy', a playful face-off designed to showcase the magic of White Burgundy through the eyes of two extraordinary guests. Think of it less as a fight and more as a duel of knowledge, taste, and discovery—two Burgundy experts who live and breathe this region, bringing years of experience and their own lineup of hidden gems to the table.
We're especially excited to welcome back to Vinonueva our close friend Peter Wasserman, whose connection to Burgundy is both professional and deeply personal. Peter carries forward the legacy of his late mother, the legendary Becky Wasserman, through Becky Wasserman & Co., one of the most respected importers of French wines. Founded in 1979, the company has always championed small domaines that honor their terroirs. Her pioneering spirit continues to guide Peter's work today, rooted in decades of relationships across Burgundy and a lifelong dedication to sharing the region's stories. His work reflects the same integrity, curiosity, and love of Burgundy that defined Becky Wasserman's vision.

Joining him is Bertrand Leulliette, founder of Bertrand's Wines, a boutique importer. Since 2015, Bertrand's Wines has been building a portfolio of wines centered on Bourgogne and Beaujolais, crafted by vignerons who are deeply rooted in their terroirs. He works with growers and not winemakers, people who are close to their vineyards and who think about the mark they will leave in the village and their appellation. Bertrand spends almost three months a year in Burgundy, visiting, tasting, exploring, and listening. For Bertrand, having boots in the vineyards, as well as eyes and ears in the region, is essential for finding the best new generation of growers and the most amazing appellations you may have never heard of.

BACKGROUND
Burgundy stands as one of the most captivating and humbling wine regions in the world, and White Burgundy in particular holds a unique place in the hearts of white wine lovers. Here, Chardonnay reaches its purest form, expressing terroir with unmatched clarity and precision.
In Burgundy, spending more doesn't always mean drinking better. It's easy to spend a fortune chasing labels like Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, or Meursault—sometimes with disappointing results. Even at the Grand Cru level, price doesn't always guarantee quality. This is why so many wine lovers end up walking away from the region altogether, frustrated by its complexity and convinced it's no longer worth the cost. But the true challenge and the greater reward lie in discovering those hidden gems beyond the big names. Countless wines from lesser-known appellations deliver authenticity, quality, and real value, bottles that shine not only as everyday companions but also on more special occasions, without the absurd price tags.
Both Peter and Bertrand represent top collectible domaines, but just as importantly, they are tireless seekers of hidden gems from Burgundy's broader landscape.
This is a rare chance to taste, compare, and learn alongside two Burgundy connoisseurs who know the region inside out, and to begin drinking Burgundy smartly, discovering how to enjoy the region at its best.
